Chesachobee Chessies

The first Chesachobee litter was bred in 1954 by my Aunt, Millie Buchholz.  Her father bred Chesapeakes on the Eastern Shore of Maryland so her love for the breed started as a small child and grew through the years.  Since starting Chesachobee Kennels, she has spent the last 50+ years devoted to the betterment of the breed.  We are very sorry to say that Aunt Millie passed away on February 18, 2005.  We will miss her terribly and will always be grateful for all she taught us and for trusting us to carry on Chesachobee Chessies.

I also grew up with Chesapeakes and my love for the breed also started as a small child.  I spent as much time as possible watching, listening and learning all I could from my Aunt about this unique dog.  As a teenager, I trained one of my Chesapeakes in obedience and showed my female in conformation.  In the years to follow although we were rarely without a Chesapeake I spend the majority of my time raising a family.  About 1992, when I lost both my pet Chessies, we decide to get back into the show world.  In 1998, after 2 years of trying, we finally brought together the lines we wanted to produce our first litter.  With the birth of that litter, my Aunt Millie surprised me by handing down the Chesachobee name to me.  It made me very proud and honored to be given the chance to carry on such a well respected name.  Since that time we have done our best to produce healthy, quality, well-bred pups with good temperaments that exemplify bred type.  Every pup we produce is raised in our home as a member of our family from the minute it is born, until the day it goes to it's new home.

When anyone sees the Chesachobee name, we want them to know that pup was bred only after a lot of work.  A great deal of time went into studying pedigrees, trying to find just the right combination to produce the best pup possible.  We also want them to know that from the time that pup was born, it received the best care possible, being loved, handled and socialized.

We will continue to do our very best to uphold the high standards set by my Aunt in 1954.
